Sonohub – CO₂-reduced slurry as a scalable service for the concrete industry
About the project:
Sonocrete GmbH, based in Cottbus, has developed an ultrasound process that activates cement particles and makes it possible to significantly reduce the cement (clinker) content in concrete — without compromising early strength or workability. Until now, this required a stationary plant installed at the concrete works, an investment that only paid off for very large producers. In the Sonohub project, Sonocrete is developing a Slurry-as-a-Service model: an ultrasound-activated slurry is pre-produced centrally, made storable and transportable, and delivered to concrete plants on demand through a digital platform under a pay-per-use model. Customers no longer need their own plant. This makes the technology accessible for the first time to small and medium-sized producers and to the ready-mix concrete sector.
Objectives and expected results:
Open up the technology to customer groups that could not use it before — smaller precast producers and ready-mix concrete plants.Develop a slurry that remains reactive, storable and transportable for up to 14 days, together with a scalable, modular plant concept and the required transport, storage and handover logistics.Build a digital platform (Sonocrete Cockpit) for ordering, batch tracking and remote condition monitoring, complemented by a machine-learning recipe engine.Increase circularity by integrating locally available residual and recycled materials into the slurry.Set up and operate the first pilot Sonohub in Cottbus as a reference and test site.
Funding:
This project is co-funded by the European Union and the State of Brandenburg.
